Software Productivity Measurement & Benchmarking

QSM helps you level-set expectations for future software project success.

The good, the bad, and the costly.

Designed For: Executives who want to better understand IT productivity and quality assessments and comparisons.

Do you really know if your IT investments are paying off? Do you know how your software team’s productivity and quality compare to organizations building similar products?

QSM is ready to help.

We'll build you a productivity baseline for your current situation, and then we’ll help you identify why your 1-star and 5-star projects perform the way they do.

Finally, we'll compare your organization to others building similar systems–using historical data to capture reality-based expectations, and to show how your team truly measures up.

Software Productivity Measurement & Benchmarking Process

1

Discovery

We’ll meet with your team to understand what productivity or process objectives you are looking to achieve and who you would ideally like to be compared to.

2

Data Collection

We'll work with you to identify a representative group of software projects and meet with representatives of each to collect core metric data - software size, effort, duration, and defects, along with key project and development environment characteristics, such as application type, industry, development methods, and more.

3

Analysis

We'll compute and baseline the Productivity Index (PI), computed using SLIM's Software Production Equation, and other core metrics, representing the current, average capabilities of your organization. Using our historical database of over 14,500 projects, we'll create a benchmark that aligns with your competitors and conduct a detailed comparison of your performance against the benchmark.

4

Briefing

We'll provide a comprehensive software productivity and benchmark report to executives and project teams that lists project performance ratings, from worst (1 star) to best (5 stars). We'll make recommendations for process improvements and help you build a business case for change.
